  • Trauma is not just what happened to you. Trauma is what happened inside you as a result of what happened to you, trauma is the internal wound—the disconnection from the self—that occurs when our nervous system becomes overwhelmed and doesn’t get the safety or support it needs to return to balance.

Trauma lives in the body. It’s not just a memory stored in the mind—it’s a lived, physiological experience that alters how we think, feel, and show up in the world. You may not remember the event clearly, but your body does.

Trauma is a wound that hasn’t been allowed to heal. Instead of resolving naturally, trauma often gets stuck in the body as frozen energy or chronic dysregulation in the nervous system.

Trauma is too much, too soon without my convent. -(or not enough)

The Dual Nature of Trauma: Big “T” and Little “t”

Trauma exists on a spectrum. What overwhelms one person might not impact another in the same way. In trauma work, we often differentiate:

Big “T” Trauma: These are major life events like abuse, loss, assault, natural disasters, or war. They’re often clearly recognized as traumatic.

Little “t” Trauma: These are smaller, repeated, or subtle experiences—like emotional neglect, bullying, unmet childhood needs, or feeling unsafe or unseen—that can deeply impact how we relate to ourselves and others.

Both are valid and can have equally profound effects on the nervous system and self-worth.

    Types of Trauma

    Trauma may be:

Acute Trauma: A single overwhelming event (e.g., an accident or sudden loss).

Chronic Trauma: Repeated or prolonged exposure to stressors (e.g., childhood neglect, long-term illness, domestic abuse).

Developmental or Attachment Trauma: When emotional needs in early life go unmet, disrupting secure bonding and self-regulation.

Intergenerational Trauma: Trauma passed down through family systems and generations, often unconsciously.

Collective or Cultural Trauma: The psychological impact of oppression, racism, genocide, or displacement experienced by a group or community.

How We Heal: Root Cause Therapy & Embodied Processing

At Donna Walsh Rise, we go deeper than surface symptoms. We gently uncover the root cause of your trauma—often hidden beneath old belief systems, suppressed emotions, and nervous system patterns created in moments when your body did its best to protect you.

Root Cause Therapy uses regression and inner child techniques to identify and clear subconscious imprints, beliefs, and emotional residue that may be sabotaging your present.

Embodied Processing allows you to safely reconnect with the sensations, impulses, and emotions stored in the body, helping to release what was once frozen or stuck. This isn’t about reliving trauma—it’s about safely resolving it.

When we address trauma at the nervous system level, healing becomes not just possible—but transformational.

  • Addiction is not the problem—it’s the attempt to solve a deeper problem.

Addiction, in my practice, is not seen as a disease, a flaw, or a moral failure. It is a response. A symptom. A strategy the nervous system adopts to survive overwhelming emotional pain, unresolved trauma, or a deep disconnection from self.

As Gabor Maté says, “The question is not ‘why the addiction,’ but ‘why the pain?’”

Addiction is the body’s cry for regulation. For relief. For connection. It is the brain’s way of numbing unbearable emotions or filling an unmet need—love, safety, touch, purpose. Whether it’s drugs, alcohol, food, sex, scrolling, shopping, relationships, gambling, or even overworking—each addiction is simply trying to suppress something too painful to face alone.

From a nervous system perspective (influenced by the work of Peter Levine), addiction is often the result of a dysregulated, traumatized state—fight, flight, freeze, or fawn—where the body has never felt safe enough to come back to baseline. It’s not that you are broken. It’s that something happened that was too much, too fast, or too soon—without enough support.

Not everyone who experiences trauma will become addicted,

but every addict has experienced trauma—in some form.

    What Is the Addiction Suppressing?

    • Grief that was never expressed

    • Shame buried so deep it becomes the default

    • Rage that never had a safe place to be released

    • Loneliness that aches like hunger

    • Abandonment that left a child inside still waiting to be chosen

    • A sense of powerlessness or not-enoughness masked with control

I don’t judge the addiction. I get curious about what it’s protecting.

Because healing doesn’t come from cutting off the addiction—it comes from understanding the intelligence behind it.

    Different Types of Addiction

    Addiction wears many faces:

Substance Addictions: alcohol, prescription medication, drugs, cigarettes, caffeine

Behavioral Addictions: gambling, sex, pornography, shopping, eating, working

Emotional Addictions: toxic relationships, drama, chaos, adrenaline, codependency

Digital Addictions: scrolling, gaming, phone usage, social media dopamine loops

Some addictions are loud and obvious. Others are hidden in high-functioning roles, perfectionism, or the need to be everything to everyone.

Whatever the form, it always points to one thing: something within needs healing.

My Approach: Root Cause Therapy & Embodiment Processing

I combine science, somatics, and soul.

As someone with lived family experience around addiction, I hold a deep, non-judgmental space. My work goes beneath the addiction to release trauma stored in the body using a unique combination of:

Root Cause Therapy to uncover and heal the original wound

Embodiment Processing to feel and move stuck emotions through the nervous system

Subconscious Reprogramming to shift belief systems created in trauma

Somatic Grief & Emotional Healing to reintegrate the self with compassion and strength

You don’t need to be fixed. You need to feel safe enough to meet the parts of you that have been hurt—and walk them home.

    Aftercare & Integration Programme

Healing doesn’t stop when the session ends.

My Aftercare & Integration Programme is designed to walk beside you as you rewrite your story—gently, sustainably, and somatically.

    This includes:

    • Ongoing telehealth support through your personal online portal

    • Tailored nervous system regulation tools

    • Weekly integration check-ins and emotional tracking

    • Journaling, embodiment meditations, somatic body mapping

    • Connection to a supportive healing community (optional)

    • Resource guides to maintain stability, self-trust, and long-term resilience

Because true healing doesn’t just release what’s been buried. It helps you build a new foundation—where safety, calm, and clarity become your new normal.

You are not your addiction. You are the part that survived.

And now, it’s time to rise.

  • Understanding Grief — A Compassionate Companion for Your Healing Journey

Grief is not just about death.

It’s about loss — of people, of pets, of relationships, of jobs, of identities.

It’s about the invisible things too: the future you thought you’d have, the stability you once felt, the version of yourself that existed before the heartbreak.

    Grief is not linear.

Some days, you might feel okay. Other days, you might feel like the world has collapsed again.

You are not broken — this is how grief moves: in waves, not straight lines. And there’s no “right way” to grieve.

As a trauma-informed grief coach and suicide bereavement specialist, I want you to know this:

    You are not alone.

    Whatever you’re feeling is valid.

And wherever you are — that’s where I’ll meet you.

My work doesn’t focus on the death, but on life after loss.

On slowly, gently, and safely rebuilding a life that feels meaningful again.

Through The Rise Method, my signature healing programme, and my 1:1 coaching containers, I guide you with tools rooted in neuroscience, somatic therapy, and emotional release. We integrate creativity and ritual — because healing the heart often begins through the hands.

Inside my grief programmes, you’ll find:

Creative Processing — art, journaling, writing, movement

Emotional Education — understanding how grief affects your mind, body, and nervous system

Somatic & Embodiment Tools — to help you feel safe in your body again

Guided Support — especially for those navigating suicide bereavement, complex grief, or unresolved trauma

This is an invitation — to feel, to remember, to express, and, when you’re ready, to rise.

    I believe your healing matters.

And I’d be honoured to walk beside you.

  • What is Somatics & Embodiment Processing?

True healing begins when the body feels safe enough to let go.

Somatics and embodiment processing is a trauma-informed, body-led approach to healing that honours the mind-body duality — recognising that emotions, memories, and unresolved pain don’t just live in the mind… they live in the body too.

Rooted in neuroscience, psychology, and the ancient wisdom of the soma, this work helps you reconnect with your body’s intelligence — the deep, intuitive knowing that guides us when we slow down enough to listen.

The Word “Somatic” — More Than Just the Body

Your body is not a machine. It’s a living, breathing story.

The word somatic comes from the Greek word soma, meaning the body in its wholeness — not just the physical form, but your sensations, emotions, beliefs, and nervous system patterns that shape how you experience life.

Somatic therapy invites you to tune in to this inner world, gently uncovering what your body has held onto — whether that’s grief, fear, shame, or the protective armour built in moments of trauma.

    A Bottom-Up Approach to Healing

Because real transformation doesn’t start in the mind — it starts in the body.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, which uses a top-down, cognitive approach, somatic and embodiment practices work from the bottom up. That means starting with the body — the breath, the posture, the subtle sensations — to access and resolve what's been stored beneath the surface.

This method activates the parasympathetic nervous system and supports vagal tone, drawing from polyvagal theory to help the body move from survival states (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) into safety, regulation, and connection.

    What is Embodiment Processing?

A return to feeling, presence, and wholeness.

Embodiment processing is a powerful therapeutic technique that helps you track sensations, uncover stored emotions, and safely release survival responses that were never completed.

Through guided somatic tools like breathwork, micro-movements, and present-moment awareness, you begin to metabolise stuck energy — not by thinking about it, but by letting the body speak and finally be heard.

This process helps bridge the disconnection between your head and heart, allowing you to feel more grounded, open, and aligned with your true self.

    Why Choose Somatic Coaching?

Because you’re ready for a deeper way.

You’ve done the mindset work. You’ve tried to think your way out of it. But your body still holds the weight.

That’s where somatic coaching comes in.

This is the missing link — the science-backed, soul-deep approach to personal transformation that helps you:
    - Regulate your nervous system
    - Feel safe in your body
    - Release emotional blocks without reliving trauma
    - Build boundaries, self-trust, and confidence
    - Reconnect with your true self and your purpose

This is More Than Healing — This is Reclaiming Your Life.

When you feel safe in your body, everything changes.

This work is tender, powerful, and rooted in compassion. Whether you're healing grief, trauma, addiction, or simply longing to feel like yourself again — this is where we begin.

This is the art of coming home to you.
